Jessica Simpson shows off 'baby bump'

Photo's from Jessica Twitter

Posted by Emily Wright [boston.com]

Less than a week after Jessica Simpson tweeted a photo of her daughter and the words "Big sis," alluding to a second pregnancy, she posted another photo to her social media account, this time giving followers a glimpse what looks like a growing belly.

The 32-year-old's photo was a mirror shot (a.k.a. a selfie), showing off a bikini and matching cover-up, with the words, "Bumpin' and proud!" in the text field. Simpson, her fiance Eric Johnson, and their daughter Maxwell Drew, were on vacation in Hawaii this week, according to her Twitter account.

Rumors began circulating that Simpson and Johnson would soon be welcoming a new addition to their growing family when an exclusive source talked to Us Weekly in November, and revealed the then yet-to-be-confirmed baby news. Simpson has not commented on the baby news outside of her tweets.

Simpson gave birth to Maxwell, her first child, in May, 2012.

'The Hobbit': Bilbo Bags Record $85M in U.S. Box Office Debut

By Todd Cunningham | The Wrap

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" launched Peter Jackson's new trilogy with the biggest December box-office opening ever in the U.S., taking in $85 million in three days.

Jackson's prequel to the blockbuster "Lord of the Rings" series, the first of three installments, shattered the record for biggest December debut set in 2007 by "I Am Legend" with $77.2 million. The overall box office was the highest ever for a December weekend at $134 million, and was up 14 percent over the comparable weekend last year.

It's been nine years since moviegoers have had the chance to revisit Middle-earth and they were glad to be back, giving "The Hobbit" an "A" CinemaScore. The film is directed by Jackson and stars Ian McKellen as the wizard, Gandalf, and Martin Freeman as the titular hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. New Line and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer co-produced and co-financed the film.

The "Lord of the Rings" movies all opened the week before Christmas, but Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman said the studio saw an opportunity with "The Hobbit" to get a jump on the holiday season.

"You sort of lead with your chin when you go out early like this," Fellman told TheWrap, "but we knew we had a great picture, and we think we're set up to build on this from here. Next week is tricky since it's still pre-holiday, but by the time we get to Christmas we'll be rolling."

Fellman said one of the goals was to attract a new generation of Middle-earth fans, and the numbers suggest that could happen. The audience was 42 percent under 25 years of age and 57 percent males.

Fellman noted that school's are generally still not out for the holiday break and that, combined with the "A+" CinemaScore that moviegoers under 18 – who made up 20 percent of the audience – gave the film point to the potential to capitalize on younger audiences in the coming weeks.

The debut by "The Hobbit" is bigger than any of the "Rings" movies, including the franchise finale "The Return of the King," which opened to $72.6 million domestically in 2003.

"The Hobbit" is benefiting from a higher mark-up on 3D tickets. It is the first adaptation of the beloved J.R.R. Tolkien books to arrive in theaters in that format, which accounted for 3,160 of the total 4,045 screens and made up 49 percent of the overall gross. The per-location average overall was nearly $21,000. The 326 Imax locations brought in $10.1 million, averaging more than $30,000 per theater over the three days.

About 460 theaters showed "The Hobbit" in the groundbreaking but controversial 48 frame-per-second format -- which doubles the standard film speed and provides more clarity -- that Jackson utilized when he shot the movie. Between the high-speed film, 3D and Imax versions and combinations of those formats, moviegoers had six available options for viewing "The Hobbit." Imax screens playing the film in the 48 fps format averaged $44,000 per location.

Friday's grosses for "The Hobbit" were swelled by the $13 million in sales from midnight screenings at 3,100 locations, 2,160 of which were 3D.

Finishing a distant No. 2 was DreamWorks' animated kids movie "Rise of the Guardians," which brought in $7.4 million to up its overall domestic total after four weeks to $71 million.

In its sixth week, DreamWorks and Disney's Oscar front-runner "Lincoln' brought in $7.2 million to raise its overall domestic total to nearly $108 million. Sony's James Bond thriller "Skyfall," also in its sixth week, finished fourth with $7 million. It has taken in $272 million domestically.

Fox's Oscar hopeful "Life of Pi" added $5.4 million this weekend. Director Ang Lee's lyrical epic has taken in nearly $70 million after four weeks.

Plane believed to be singer's found in Mexico

By By PORFIRIO IBARRA and GALIA GARCIA-PALAFOX | Associated Press

MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) — The wreckage of a small plane believed to be carrying Mexican-American music superstar Jenni Rivera was found in northern Mexico on Sunday and there are no apparent survivors, authorities said.

Transportation and Communications Minister Gerardo Ruiz Esparza said "everything points toward" it being the U.S.-registered Learjet 25 carrying Rivera and six other people to Toluca, outside Mexico City, from Monterrey.

"There is nothing recognizable, neither material nor human" in the wreckage found in the state of Nuevo Leon, Ruiz Esparza told the Televisa network. The impact was so powerful that the remains of the plane "are scattered over an area of 250 to 300 meters. It is almost unrecognizable."

No cause was given for the plane's crash, but its wreckage was found near the town of Iturbide in Mexico's Sierra Madre Oriental, where the terrain is very rough. It took off from Monterrey before dawn at 3:30 a.m. local time and was reported missing about 10 minutes later.

Media and celebrities in Mexico sent condolences to the family of Rivera, who has sold more than 15 million records, but authorities still had not confirmed that she was aboard the plane and said there will be an investigation to identify the remains found.

"My friend! Why? There is no consolation. God help me!" said Mexican songstress Paulina Rubio on her official Twitter account. Singing and soap opera star Lucero wrote on her Twitter account: "What horrible news! ... My deepest sympathies for her family and friends. Luz."

Also aboard the plane were her publicist, Arturo Rivera, her lawyer, makeup artist and the flight crew.

The 43-year-old Rivera who was born and raised in Long Beach, California, is one of the biggest stars of the Mexican regional style known as grupero music, which is influenced by the norteno, cumbia and ranchero styles.

Though drug trafficking was the theme of some of her songs, she was not considered a singer of "narco corridos," or ballads glorifying drug lords like other groups, such as Los Tigres del Norte. She was better known for singing about her disdain for men.

The so-called "La Diva de la Banda" was beloved by fans on both sides of the border for songs such as "De Contrabando" and "La Gran Senora."

She recently won two Billboard Mexican Music Awards: Female Artist of the Year and Banda Album of the Year for "Joyas prestadas: Banda." She has also been nominated various times for Latin Grammys.

The singer, businesswoman and actress appeared in the indie film Filly Brown, which was shown at the Sundance Film Festival, as the incarcerated mother of Filly Brown. She also has her own reality shows including "I Love Jenni" and "Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis and Raq-C" and her daughter's "Chiquis 'n Control."

Rivera was detained at the Mexico City airport in May 2009 when she declared $20,000 in cash but was really carrying $52,167 and was ordered to stand trial a year later. She said it was an innocent mistake.

On Saturday night, Rivera had given a concert before thousands of fans in Monterrey. After the concert she gave a press conference during which she spoke of her emotional state following her recent divorce from former Major League Baseball pitcher Esteban Loaiza, who played for teams including the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.

"I can't get caught up in the negative because that destroys you. Perhaps trying to move away from my problems and focus on the positive is the best I can do. I am a woman like any other and ugly things happen to me like any other woman," she said Saturday night. "The number of times I have fallen down is the number of times I have gotten up."

The mother of five children and grandmother of two had announced in October that she was divorcing Loaiza after two years of marriage. It was her third marriage.

She was proud to present herself as a Latina woman struggling to give a good life to her children.

"I am the same as the public, as my fans," she told The Associated Press in an interview last March.

Rivera is the sister of Mexican singer Lupillo Rivera. Patricia Chavez of Lupillo Rivera's office in the United States told The AP that "for now we don't have any information that would be useful."

‘Gangnam Style’ now most-viewed YouTube video of all time

By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News | The Sideshow

Congratulations, Internet.

"Gangnam Style," the unlikely smash hit by South Korean rapper Psy, has surpassed Justin Bieber's "Baby" to become the most-watched YouTube video of all time.

The video--featuring Psy's meme-ready dance moves--has racked up more than 815 million views since it was uploaded to YouTube on July 15. Bieber's "Baby," which has been watched more than than 803 million times since it was posted in February 2010.

"#GangnamStyle just became the most watched video @YouTube!" Psy (real name: Park Jae-Sang) tweeted on Saturday. "#History."

"Gangnam Style" already holds the title for "most liked" video in YouTube history with more than 2 million "likes," according to the Guinness Book of World Records, which officially recognized the achievement in September. The video for LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" is a distant second with more than 1.6 million "likes." Bieber's "Baby" is no. 3 in that category.

But true Beliebers, fear not: The 18-year-old pop star is not taking the "most viewed" loss lying down, tweeting a shirtless picture from the gym for his 30 million Twitter followers.

Lindsay Lohan Makes a Messy Surprise Appearance on ‘Jimmy Fallon’

(Lloyd Bishop/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank)

By Suzy Byrne | omg! from Yahoo!

Lindsay Lohan didn’t want to sit down for a prying interview with Barbara Walters, but she had no problem appearing on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” Wednesday night – probably because she didn’t have to utter a single word!

The 26-year-old “Liz & Dick” star was a surprise guest on the NBC talk show, popping up during Fallon’s "Let Us Play With Your Look" segment, in which he sings those six words over and over while a celebrity guest gives an audience member a messy makeover. Moments after Fallon started crooning, Lohan – who drastically played with her look for the bit – appeared dressed in all white, including a blunt-cut bob wig with bangs. She plucked a gentleman from the audience and led him to the stage – in complete silence. She proceeded to rub a large amount of a goopy, creamy substance all over his head to “style” his hair, but it also ended up on his face and all over his clothing.

Fallon ultimately collapsed from his energetic singing performance and was pulled off the stage. Lohan then hammed it up a little, attempting to exit after him, but getting caught in the curtain. She played up the physical comedy, maintaining complete silence. As she finally escaped, one audience member is heard screaming, “I love you Lindsay!” The rest of the audience then gave a round of applause.

Lohan didn’t appear after the commercial break, but Fallon gave her a shout out. "I want to say thank you to the great Lindsay Lohan for helping us out! She's awesome."

Fallon and Lohan recently reconnected in Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy. The TV host stopped in a restaurant for a late-night bite to eat and saw LiLo there with her friends. After telling him it was “embarrassing” that he was dining alone, she invited him to sit at her table and he did.

Sounds like it was over dinner that they also plotted her secret appearance on his show!

Lohan was scheduled to appear on “20/20” this Friday to promote her upcoming Lifetime TV movie, “Liz & Dick,” during an interview with her “close family friend” Barbara Walters. However, Lohan’s long-time publicist quit last month and she hired a new team – one which apparently didn’t want her to dish about all her legal troubles with Walters. So Lohan pulled out of that interview and scheduled a chat session on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on November 20 instead. Leno is known for his soft-ball questions, so he will likely go easy on the troubled star.

Not as easy as Fallon though! He let Lohan have a moment to shine – and she didn’t even have to open her mouth, which is a good thing as it tends to get her in trouble.

In other Lohan news, this week the actress learned she has a long-lost sibling! It has long been rumored that her dad, Michael, had a love child while he was married to Dina, but it was confirmed when he took a paternity test on the British TV show “Trisha Goddard Show,” which airs Thursday. The “lucky” girl is 17-year-old Ashley Horn, who met her dad for the first time on the show. Of course, Michael is also expecting another child with his current girlfriend, Kate Major, a former tabloid reporter.

No Doubt Pulls Controversial ‘Cowboys & Indians’-Themed Video After Complaints

L: Adrian Young, R: Gwen Stefani
By Wendy Geller | Stop The Presses!

No Doubt's second single off their new album is called "Looking Hot," but it looks like the video for the tune has gotten the band in hot water. The clip, which debuted Friday and features an Old West cowboys-and-Indians theme, has raised ire in the Native American community, resulting in its removal from all outlets.

In the video, Stefani--who is of European descent--dresses up as a Native American princess, complete with feather headdresses, beaded jewelry, and long braids (which, incidentally, she keeps her usual platinum blond). Bassist Tony Kanal--who is of Eastern Indian heritage--plays a tribal chief. Drummer Adrian Young and guitarist Tom Dumont portray traditional cowboys, who capture Stefani and tie her up.

One would assume that the band didn't intend any offense; however, November is Native American Heritage Month. And, this certainly isn't the first time this sort of playacting has come under scrutiny (one only needs to look to the sports world for a boatload of examples).

At any rate, No Doubt has pulled the video, and put an apology on their official website.

"As a multi-racial band our foundation is built upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures. Our intention with our new video was never to offend, hurt or trivialize Native American people, their culture or their history," it reads. "Although we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California, we realize now that we have offended people. This is of great concern to us and we are removing the video immediately.

"The music that inspired us when we started the band, and the community of friends, family, and fans that surrounds us was built upon respect, unity and inclusiveness. We sincerely apologize to the Native American community and anyone else offended by this video. Being hurtful to anyone is simply not who we are."

Fans on Facebook had mixed response to the video, with some thinking it was no big deal--"Concentrate on real issues instead of attacking a band that has never shown any racism or hate," said one--and others using the opportunity to educate about Native American concerns by sharing links and information.

Still others were disturbed by another aspect of the video--Stefani being bound and tied by her bandmates, which they construed as a message of violence and dominance over women; particularly disturbing when combined with the racial aspect. "[They] tried to make bondage of a Native woman sexy," lamented one fan.

No Doubt released their sixth album, Push And Shove, in September. The set marks the first studio album from the band in seven years.

Britney Spears’ Lucky magazine controversy

By Suzy Byrne | A-Line: Celebrity Style

Oops … she did it again! Britney Spears has found herself smack dab in the middle of another controversy pertaining to her photo spread in the December issue of Lucky, which hit the web on Friday.

"The X Factor" judge dons several different relatively conservative outfits in the mag and reveals some of her fashion secrets — for example, she hates socks. While the whole thing seems pretty innocuous, there's been a big backlash from her fans, who are complaining that the entertainer seems to be wearing a bad wig in pictures that appear to be heavily retouched.

In the photos, the 30-year-old singer's hairline does look lower than usual and her part is in a different spot. The texture of her locks also seems different — it's much fuller and more unnatural looking than what we see when she's seated at the judges' table, prompting rumors that she's wearing a wig or some type of a weave. One fan even tweeted at the mag, "Did @britneyspears even show up for the photoshoot or did you just photoshop her face on a body[?]"

To us, Spears' tresses scream Kim Zolciak — and we all know that "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" star is all about the wigs.

In the Lucky interview, Spears also talks about her issues dealing with acne, but you can't see a single mark on her face in the pics. While magazines are known for retouching, fans found this to be an "extreme" example with some saying she looks "unrecognizable." Her teeth are so pearly white that she could be the poster girl for the latest dental bleaching product.

The fashion mag is aware of the criticism and addressed the topic on Twitter over the weekend, writing, "Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on our cover! As always, we will share with our team and we're sorry to have let some of you down."

As for Spears, she's kept mum on the topic. Her tweets have instead been about "The X Factor" as well as the upcoming campaign for her Fantasy Twist perfume. But then again, she also hasn't tweeted about the ongoing court battle her parents are in with her shady ex-manager, Sam Lufti. People magazine reports that Spears — who remains under the legal control of her father and her fiancé, Jason Trawick — is "aware of the trial but isn't really asking questions." Although Lufti lived with her in 2007, Spears "doesn't remember" much about him "but knows that he didn't act in her best interest."

Christina Aguilera & Cee Lo Green Taking ‘Voice’ Hiatus; Shakira & Usher To Fill Their Chairs

By Lyndsey Parker | Reality Rocks

You have to hand it to "The Voice." Last week, the show added a third Wednesday episode to ruin "The X Factor's" big premiere night. And now, with the new "American Idol" and "X Factor" judges having had hardly any time to bask in their publicity, already "The Voice" is stealing both shows' thunder once again--with breaking news that two new singularly named superstar judges, Shakira and Usher, will replace Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green for Season 4. Both Christina and Cee Lo will be back for Season 5 in fall 2013, according to NBC.

Rumors have swirled for months that NBC's overkill decision to air "The Voice" twice yearly would at least temporarily drive away some or all of the show's regular judges, causing the lineup to be revamped for the spring 2013 season. Apparently such is the downside of hiring judges who, you know, are still relevant hitmakers and have other important things to do with their time, like touring and recording, besides sitting on an NBC soundstage six months out of the year. (And this is why talent shows should consider hiring non-celebrity judges, but I digress.) In fact, just last week when talking to Ryan Seacrest, Christina admitted that she'd first assumed her "Voice" gig would be "kind of like a side project...then it kind of took off, and there goes my free time!"

With Christina getting ready to release her comeback album, Lotus, in November (her new single, "Your Body," debuted last week to positive reviews), and the ubiquitous Cee Lo working on a Christmas album and a new sitcom, it's no surprise that they are the first "Voice" judges to take official leaves of absence.

"Being a coach on "The Voice' is a wonderful experience and the relationship amongst us all is like an extended family," Christina said in an NBC press release Monday. "I am so proud of being part of the show from the beginning, all the work we've done, and proud of what the show stands for as a whole. As I have expressed since day one of the show, that I am a singer and performer first and I am so excited to get back to that love. Since this year NBC and 'The Voice' have decided to tape back-to-back seasons, requiring a full-year commitment, it is important for me to take Season 4 off, allowing me to support my music that my fans have been waiting for...by pursuing my first passion of music during the break, I am also able to come back and offer even more to my team on 'The Voice' in the future."

In the same press release, Cee Lo said: "First, thank you NBC for supporting my decision to take this Season 4 hiatus! It says that I'm seen and respected as a complete artist and not just a cast member. I'm highly enthusiastic about focusing my undivided attention on my additional endeavors and interests like my upcoming solo album, new Goodie Mob album, Las Vegas residency 'Loberace,' new memoir, and new NBC comedy...I will return for Season 5 and will be watching Season 4. NBC is home and as far as Usher and Shakira are concerned--'mi casa su casa.'"

NBC's press release assured that "The Voice's" resident bromancers, Adam Levine (whose Maroon 5 band is hotter than ever) and Blake Shelton, will stick around to hang with Shakira and Usher in Season 4, but it seems like only a matter of time before they too decide to take a break. Blake in particular has repeatedly, quite loudly complained about "The Voice's" new grueling two-seasons-a-year shoot schedule, and just this week he told Access Hollywood: "I don't know how much longer I'm even going to do it. It's [NBC's] decision [for us to leave], in that they're the ones choosing to do back-to-back seasons. They really leave us no other option. As far as Christina and Adam and Cee Lo and I, if we want to tour, there's not a chance of that doing back-to-back seasons. That's not acceptable to me. At some point, I've got to go, 'You know what, this has been awesome. It's changed my life, but it's not my life. I've got to get back to what I really do, and that's country music."

It is expected that any current judges who sit out a "Voice" season will return eventually, after taking some much-needed time to focus on their own careers...however, Blake's statement almost reads like a final farewell, so we shall see. If he does ever leave, Adam will probably be crushed. But maybe Usher can be his new bromance buddy when and if that happens.

As for Usher and Shakira, both are relevant stars who appeal to demographics that have traditionally not tuned in for, say, "American Idol"--the urban audience and the Latin audience--and they have a combined 39 years of recording experience to their credit. (And in an age when rival shows hire relative newcomers like Demi Lovato and Nicki Minaj, that counts for something.) So they're not bad choices. But how will they gel with Adam and Blake...or with any new co-stars, when and if Adam and Blake also decide to go on hiatus? And what about when Christina and Cee Lo presumably return--will that old "Voice" magic still be there? This constant game of musical (spinning) chairs on "The Voice" could really ruin the show's momentum.

Or...perhaps a rotating (no pun intended) panel could put "The Voice's" focus where it really belongs and never has been: on the actual contestants, for once.

Adele Gives Birth to a Baby Boy!

Adele
Us Weekly

Adele better brush up on her lullabies!

The eight-time Grammy winner has given birth to a healthy baby boy, a source tells Us Weekly. It is the first child for Adele and the second for her boyfriend, Simon Konecki, who has a five-year-old daughter with ex-wife Clary Fisher.

In the time since confirming her pregnancy on her official blog in July, the 24-year-old pop star has remained largely out of the spotlight as she focused on her baby-to-be. "The baby is healthy and she's so excited!" an Adele confidant told Us Weekly in late September.

Going back into the recording studio to belt out "Skyfall," the theme song for the new James Bond film just prior to giving birth, Adele is also working on her next full-length album. Her new music, a source explains, will be inspired in large part by her new bundle of joy.

"The pregnancy has had a big impact on her songwriting!" explains the insider, who tells Us the new album will be lighter in tone than her breakup-themed disc 21, released in early 2011.

New music isn't the only thing the busy mom has on her upcoming agenda. She and Konecki, 38, are anxious to wed! Raised by a single mom, a pal tells Us that Adele "wants a low-key affair where her mother gives her away."

More than anything, says the insider, "she wants to be a wife and mom."

Jennifer Aniston finally debuts enormous engagement ring

We finally present to you ... Jennifer Aniston's huge diamond engagment ring! (Jason Thomas/WireImage)

By Lizbeth Scordo | Love Bites: Celebrity Relationships

It's the rock the world has been waiting for. Nearly two months after getting engaged to boyfriend Justin Theroux, Jennifer Aniston has finally stepped out wearing her engagement ring. And it's a whopper!

The 43-year-old was spotted wearing a large diamond on the ring finger of her left hand as she vacationed in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with her fiancé over the weekend. The actress has been in nearby Albuquerque shooting scenes for her upcoming comedy "We're the Millers."

So what was the reason for the delay in debuting the sparkler? It's unclear whether Aniston only recently got the ring or if her main squeeze gave it to her back when he popped the question on August 10, which also happened to be his 41st birthday. Perhaps she just held off on sporting it since she's been working on set so much? In the film, she plays a woman hired by a drug smuggler to pretend to be his wife, and thus, spends many of her scenes wearing a simple gold wedding band. Some speculated that the band might actually belong to Aniston, but most of us were patiently waiting for her to debut some big bling.

And now that she finally has, no one within miles can miss it!

Beware of the curves: Confident Christina proudly parades her fuller figure... in a VERY tight purple dress at AMA nominations

Christina Aguilera (Getty Images)

By Chris Johnson ( Mail Online )

If there was any doubt that Christina Aguilera has well and truly embraced her fuller figure, then look no further.

The 31-year-old singer put in a very confident turn on Tuesday as she poured (and squeezed) her very generous proportions into a form-fitting body contour dress.

Needless to say, Christina - with dress pulled taut over her bust and bottom - delivered an eye-catching look as she arrived to present the American Music Award nominations at press conference in Los Angeles.

The Beautiful songstress was in full-on performance mode for the photographers - sticking out her rounded derriere, putting her hands on hips and twirling round for her over-the-shoulder shot in a series of moves that threatened derail Kim Kardashian's reputation as having the most famous bottom in Hollywood.

The Voice judge completed her style with a pair of sky-high silver heels, fake eyelashes along with her newly-dyed pink and purple-tipped blonde tresses.

And then there was the fake tan. And lots of it.

Christina, a mother of one, had slathered it on in abundance, particularity so over her legs - which appeared to be a darker shade than the rest of her body.

Aguilera, who announced the AMA nominees on Tuesday, was the first performer to be announced for the live show, which takes place next month.

R&B star Rihanna and rapper Nicki Minaj led nominations for the American Music Awards with four apiece, edging out stiff competition from pop sensations Justin Bieber and One Direction.

Katy Perry vs. Cyndi Lauper — Fashion Faceoff

Cyndy Lauper / Getty Images
Katy Perry / Getty Images

By Raechal Leone Shewfelt | A-Line: Celebrity Style

Hello? Is the fashion lover of the house available? Because this week, we've got quite the style showdown between '80s rocker Cyndi Lauper and pop tart Katy Perry in the same whimsical dress featuring a London phone booth. The ladies, who are both known for their frequent hair-color changes and their quirky wardrobes, chose identical versions of Moschino Cheap & Chic's printed crepe mini dress. Lauper once prided herself on being different, naming her 1983 debut album She's So Unusual, and Perry has made it clear with fashions like her whip cream-spewing bra and a glow-in-the-dark dress that she likes to stand out from the crowd herself. So which one of them really owned this look? Time for us to decide ... who wore it best?!

Perry, 27, donned the frock for dinner with friends in England's capital city last October. The "Wide Awake" singer further flaunted her fun sense of style by adding a classic trench coat, dark tights, a beanie, and black flats. As Perry once told the British morning TV show "Daybreak," her current style of high-fashion dresses mixed with trendy and sometimes funky pieces comes from her younger years, when she wasn't so financially successful. "I wanted to be unique but I had no means," Perry said. "I started going to charity shops, and vintage shops, and whatever I could get with the money that I made while playing the guitar on the street, that's what I bought and I cultivated this very interesting somewhat embarrassing style at times."

Lauper, 59, took her turn in the dress last month at a book store in NYC. She wore it with big gold earrings, a black leather jacket, and tall black boots as she promoted her book simply titled, Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir. The "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" singer's Big Apple adventures also recently included a performance at the 70th birthday bash for her designer pal Betsey Johnson. It only makes sense that they'd be friends, right?

While both women were able to fulfill their quirky quotient with this design, I think it's clear that one of them wore it better. On top of the splashy dress, Perry's many accessories and pink hair were a little too much for a casual night out. Lauper, however, kept the rest of her look rocker chic. (She's come so far since she dressed like the '80s version of Ke$ha!) For me, Lauper takes the crown — that's no doubt flashing neon lights. Do you agree?

Nicki Minaj/Mariah Carey ‘Idol’ Catfight Caught On Video

By Lyndsey Parker | Reality Rocks

Rumor has it that "American Idol" producers are hoping that some juicy feuding between new alpha-female judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj will bring in ratings for Season 12. And now, months before Season 12 even starts, a video has already "leaked" depicting a blowup between the two loud ladies during this Tuesday's Charlotte, North Carolina, auditions. It's probably far from the last such TMZ-obtained video we will see before a drastically different "Idol" returns to the air in 2013.

In a seemingly scandalous new fly-on-the-wall clip just posted by TMZ, a pink-wigged and dirty-mouthed Nicki is shown going off on her former "Up Out Of My Face" duet partner, shouting, "If you've got a f***ing problem, handle it!" She also yells, "I told them, I'm not putting up with her f***ing highness over here. I'm not gonna sit here every f***ing minute to have you come down and harass me every minute every day."

Meanwhile, Mariah's manager and fellow judge, Randy Jackson, sitting by his star client's side, orders Nicki to "settle down." Producer Nigel Lythgoe, who has repeatedly claimed that Mariah and Nicki are getting along just swimmingly, also steps in to intervene. New neutral-as-Switzerland judge Keith Urban, sitting in the undesirable hot seat between Nicki and Mariah, remains calm and carries on, just sipping his Coke and probably mentally going straight to his happy place. And Mariah looks exasperated; moans,"Why, why, why?"; and appears to point Nicki in the direction of the exit door. (Mariah tweeted on Tuesday late afternoon, "whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy"--but that post has since been deleted.)

TMZ additionally reports that Nicki also threatened to "knock out" Mariah, although that exchange apparently wasn't caught on tape.

While the damning video makes it seem like this battle royale between these two divas was Nicki-instigated, MouthToEars.com claims that it was Mariah who started it all. "Nicki Minaj walked off of set because Mariah Carey kept making jabs at her. Nicki's manager and team convinced her to come back to the show. Mariah kept at it and called Nicki a b***h and then proceeded to cuss her out. Producers had to stop filming and call it a night," the site reports.

Representatives for Fox had no comment at this time.

In this supposed any-publicity-is-good-publicity age, gossippy stories like this will certainly keep "Idol" in the news, at a time of year when most reality fans are focused on NBC's increasingly popular "The Voice" or Simon Cowell's new-and-improved "X Factor." But I am concerned about how this sort of hype will ultimately damage the brand of what for years has basically been a very family-friendly, feel-good program with a largely conservative fanbase. While all of these talent shows, including "Idol" in its Simon Cowell/Paula Abdul heyday, have featured judging-table fireworks that have made for some undeniably good TV, it usually all remained playful and lighthearted--a friendly-rivalry sort of thing. In those instances when inter-judge relations did seem to genuinely sour onscreen (Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine's Tony Lucca-centric feuding on "The Voice" Season 2, the obvious uncomfortable friction between Simon and the soon-to-be-fired Nicole Scherzinger on "The X Factor" Season 1), it was a major turnoff to viewers...not to mention a major distraction from the hapless contestants caught in the crossfire.

So while Mimi/Minaj drama--staged, leaked, or real--may bring about "Idol" buzz in the short term, I do suggest, for the good of the show in the long term, that producers not work this catfighting angle too much, because it will get old fast (it's already getting a little old) and just feel like another desperate ratings gimmick. However, if this is really the direction that "Idol" is going in for Season 12, I further suggest that Fox censors have their five-second-delay switches and bleep-buttons at the ready, because they're going to need such devices even more than they did when Steven Tyler was on the show.

Christina Aguilera Official Video : Your Body

MTV and You Tube

Christina Aguilera's brand-new "Your Body" video is certainly a feast for the eyes, what with its brightly colored scenes of violence (and gratuitous automobile explosions), but it's also an all-you-can-eat buffet for pop-culture aficionados.

Yes, aside from the obvious odes to Russ Meyer flicks and trailer-park chic, "Your Body" is also loaded with subtler nods to our pop-cult past — which is why we've spent the day analyzing every frame, noting each fleeting tribute to trashy TV, sugar-coated cereals and lunar-ready footwear (what can we say, we have a lot of time on our hands). And now, in celebration of Christina's return — and her truly clever new video — we're presenting all our findings to you.

Kelly Osbourne defends pricey Emmy manicure

By Yahoo! TV Staff | Yahoo! TV Emmys Blog

Kelly Osbourne is typically the one dishing out the fashion critiques on the Emmy red carpet. But this year, she was the target of some fashion policing over a $250,000 manicure that some considered wasteful and tacky. Now she's taking the opportunity to defend herself.

"I see that my nail polish has offended some of you, however I see your point, but it was a once in a lifetime experience. #MyApologizes," she tweeted. "And please forgive me for not regretting it. It made me feel like a queen!"

Osbourne was the person who brought attention to the manicure, posting an Instagram photo and writing, "About to get a $250k manicure w nail polish made w blk diamonds" before she reported for E! on the Emmy red carpet. "I have a big mouth & i know it! I just don't like knowing that I have unintentionally offended anyone! If its intentional I don't give a S***," she wrote.

Not everyone accepted her defense. "A $250knail polish isn't classified as an 'experience,'" responded one fan. "It cld hve fed a 3rd world country."

Other comments complained that she spent more on her nails than they'd need to pay off their homes. "In my world, that is the price of a small house."

"Given the state of the economy and the fact that there are families that can't even afford to feed their children, it was excessive, wasteful, and very poor timing," wrote another, while some took issue with the fact that it didn't live up to the price tag. "What's wrong with plain old glitter nail polish? It looks the same, anyway."

Osbourne explained that she wasn't spending her own money on the Azature manicure, which contained 267 carats of black diamonds.

"No I did not pay for it. I was just lucky enough to be the one that got picked to wear it," she tweeted.

Christina Aguilera: Billboard Cover Story

by Andrew Hampp

Christina Aguilera hasn't felt this way in a decade. The singer is reflecting on the eventful two years leading up to the release of her fifth studio album, "Lotus," from her home in Los Angeles -- a period that heralded the commercial disappointment of her album "Bionic"; a divorce from husband Jordan Bratman; the release of her first movie, "Burlesque," and its accompanying soundtrack; her highly successful stint as a coach on NBC's "The Voice" and accompanying appearance on Maroon 5's mega-hit "Moves Like Jagger."

The last time she felt so inspired, the result was 2002's Stripped-a creative breakthrough that helped distance Aguilera from her teen-pop peers and produced memorable hits like "Beautiful," "Dirrty" and "Fighter."

Due Nov. 13 on RCA, "Lotus" refers to the "rebirth" Aguilera underwent both personally and professionally, opting not to work with longtime songwriting partners like Linda Perry in favor of such newer collaborators as Alex Da Kid, Sia, Candice Pillay and even pop maestro Max Martin, on first single "Your Body," which hit radio and iTunes last week and bows at No. 33 on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 chart this week.

Like on Stripped, Aguilera dips into many genres-from dance-pop on "Your Body" and "Make the World Move" (a duet with fellow "Voice" coach Cee Lo Green), piano-driven power ballads ("Sing for Me," Sia collaboration "Blank Page") and rock-tinged empowerment anthems ("Army of Me," "Cease Fire"). The album even opens with a quick sample of M83's "Midnight City" on the title track, an experimental table-setter where Aguilera resolves to "leave the past behind/Say goodbye to the scared child inside."

Alex Da Kid, who first teamed with Aguilera for 2010's "Castle Walls" on T.I.'s No Mercy, worked with Aguilera on several Lotus cuts with songwriter Pillay, many of which were recorded at her home studio. "I've worked with big and smaller people, and the more established people can get stuck in their ways and say they're not open to critique," Alex Da Kid says. "She definitely had a strong opinion, but she'll go with the best idea in the room. That's really rare for someone that's had so much success."

With Aguilera more or less based on the West Coast for the entire period leading up to Lotus' release to finish taping the current season of "The Voice," that means an aggressive Los Angeles-based promotional schedule during the next few months-with expected stops on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" as well as prominent use of "The Voice" to premiere the video for "Your Body" and a performance during album release week.
"Nobody knows better than Christina that success doesn't come from simply having the voice, but from believing and trusting in that voice," "Voice" producer Mark Burnett says. "That knowledge and experience makes her an incredibly nurturing coach, and one who not only challenges her artists, but encourages and inspires them to challenge themselves."

"I have no time to even watch my own show.
So there's your answer."

- On whether she'll watch Britney Spears on "The X Factor"

"The Voice" is winning the music-competition show race and beating "The X Factor" in the ratings. But as the show shifts into full-year production, the singer confirmed that she would be taking a break for season four, set to air next spring, with Shakira filling in her chair and Usher taking that of Cee Lo Green. She's anxious to go back out on the road for the first time since 2007's Back to Basics tour, having canceled 2010's Bionic tour due in part to poor ticket sales. "It's been a joy to be a part of other people's journey, to be able to inspire and be a part of new singers coming up in this business," she says. "But I was starting to get really worried and concerned that I wouldn't have the time to go and be an artist again.

"Mark made it very clear that these chairs are always our chairs," she continues. "He said, 'I understand the only reason the show's going to work is if it doesn't get stale.' And he totally understood that I needed something to fulfill my creative soul, and said, 'This chair will always be yours to come back to whenever you do what makes you the best.'"

However long Lotus keeps her away from "The Voice," it likely won't be permanent. "I'll probably be back. I just need to do my thing for a minute, then I can come back and be that much better of a coach. I just need a second to get back to me."

Billboard spoke with Aguilera -- who's keynoting the Billboard/Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Music Conference, to be held Oct. 24-25 -- on the eve of a live Twitter Q&A where she officially announced the details around "Lotus."

Kate Middleton Scandal Photos

Kate Middleton Topless Chi, An Italian gossip magazine released the topless photos of Kate, 30, in a special edition of its publication, with the headline 'The queen is nude' on the front page. Chi editor Alfonso Signorini said the decision to include the photos was 'extraordinary reportage'. 'For the first time, the future queen of England was appearing in a natural way, without the constraints of etiquette,' he said. The magazine included 38 photos of Prince William and Kate, shot when they were at a private chateau in the south of France. The publication of the photos has angered the royal family, who have instructed their lawyers to seek a civil injunction and criminal charges in France, after Closer, also owned by former Italian prime minister Mr Berlusconi, printed the images.

Britney Spears & Psy Do the 'Gangnam Style' Dance on 'Ellen': Watch

by Hugh McIntyre, N.Y.

Ellen DeGeneres never misses a beat when it comes to viral videos, and the afternoon talk show host has done it again. On her show Tuesday (Sept. 11), Ellen brought Psy out to teach Britney Spears his infamous "Gangnam Style" dance, and the results were predictably hilarious.

While chatting with "X Factor" judges Spears and Simon Cowell -- Billboard's current cover star -- about the new season of their Fox reality show (which premieres Sept. 12), the comedic host brought up K-pop sensation Psy, who currently sits atop the Billboard Social 50.

Psy has been steadily rising to fame in the U.S. for the last month, ever since his "Gangnam Style" went viral and he signed with Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun. He recently danced with host Kevin Hart at the MTV Video Music Awards, and even Spears has tweeted about his hit video. "I am LOVING this video -- so fun! Thinking that I should possibly learn the choreography. Anybody wanna teach me?" she wrote in August.

Ellen mentioned the tweet on while interviewing the pop star, before saying, "I've got somebody here to teach you that dance," as Spears smiled and the audience cheered, "Psy, come on out!"

Psy danced out on to the stage, and attempted to teach both Ellen and Britney how to dance "Gangnam Style." Sadly, Cowell decided to stay in his seat while the ladies learned the -- as Psy called it -- cheesy dance. The South Korean rapper instructed Spears and DeGeneres to "bounce like you are riding an invisible horse" as they tried to follow his leg and hand motions.

While dancing "Gangnam Style" isn't easy to do, both women held their own. The most impressive part? That Britney managed to do the dance in six-inch nude pumps, a skill that Psy has yet to demonstrate.

Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, Randy Jackson Confirmed As ‘American Idol’ Judges

Photo : FOX
By Lyndsey Parker | Reality Rocks

On Sunday morning it was officially announced, at the first "American Idol" Season 12 callback auditions taping at New York's Lincoln Center, that hip-hop diva Nicki Minaj and country crooner Keith Urban have finally signed on to be the new "American Idol" judges--joining the panel alongside longtime judge Randy Jackson (who is still on board to give the show continuity, despite earlier reports that he was being demoted) and Randy's star managerial client, Mariah Carey. The odd foursome made their first public appearance at Lincoln Center this Sunday morning.

Although Nicki once claimed she didn't want to be a full-time TV talent show judge, back when it was rumored that she'd been approached by Simon Cowell to join "The X Factor," the split-personality star has apparently since changed at least one of her minds. This is probably due to the reported $10 million (plus additional allowances for hair and makeup) that Fox will be paying her. Or maybe when she once joked about filling Jennifer Lopez's seat with her own equally famous curvy behind, she wasn't really joking after all.

Keith is coming in as a relative bargain, since he's reportedly "only" getting paid somewhere around $4 million. But regardless, neither of these two new judges will be getting anything close to the cool $18 million that Mariah is supposedly pocketing.

Randy will actually be pocketing two salaries--his own as a continuing judge, and a cut of Mariah's earnings, of course. All this for a man who only days ago was supposedly stepping down. I have to give the man kudos for his tenacity--clearly he is in it to win it. Either the man has dirt on Simon Fuller and is blackmailing the show, or "Idol" producers have realized that it's not wise to throw the Dawg out with the bathwater and change up this time-honored show too much. I admit I'm glad Randy still in the mix, if only for branding and nostalgia's sake. Hey, even Randy's former "Idol" co-star Simon Cowell tweeted that this was the right decision on Fox's part!

Anyway, this ought to be interesting--especially where Nicki is concerned. Miss Minaj is certainly a colorful and polarizing figure, and she'll certainly make for some fantastic television. But is she really the right fit for "Idol"? There seems to be at least one person who may not be too happy about this news--Mariah, who according to TMZ was furious to learn that she'd have to share the spotlight with someone as flashy and flamboyant as darling Nicki. I have mixed feelings about this hiring myself, which I'll get to in a moment.

As for Keith, when rumors of "Idol" judge replacements first started circulating following the departures of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, the names of divas like Katy Perry, Celine Dion, and Aretha Franklin were mentioned, but no one was speculating that some country-boy-next-door type might land (or even want) the job. However, now that Keith has officially joined the "Idol" cast, I don't think it will be a bad thing for the show at all. In fact, Keith might be just what "Idol" needs.

LeAnn Rimes’s Emotional Stage Return

By Wendy Geller | Our Country

Rimes at ACM Awards in April/Getty ImagesIt's inevitable--fans at LeAnn Rimes's first concert since checking herself into treatment August 29 had to be wondering how their favorite singer was coping. Rimes took care of that matter right away, assuring the crowd at Eau Claire, Wisconsin on Friday that she's doing just fine.

According to People, Rimes called her recent news "the elephant in the room," then told fans "I'm totally cool and so happy; I think I'm about to cry."

She then performed for more than an hour in fine form, even previewing some new material from her upcoming album Spitfire, which is slated for release next year.

People described the music as being edgy at times. "I'm pissed off at a lot of things, and I just can't say it," Rimes told the audience "So, it comes out in the music."

Rimes also debuted a song called "Borrowed," which she said was the most honest song she has ever written. It included the emotional lyrics "I don't want to give you back. You're the best I've ever had."

The singer wrapped up the set with a cover of Leonard Cohen's classic, "Hallelujah."

Rimes thanked her "awesome" and "wonderful" fans numerous times for their patience and understanding--at the show, on Twitter prior to and after the concert, and on a blog post on her official site which she composed on the way to Wisconsin. In her post, she related "I can't wait to play, I'm so ready. I've got a zillion fashion mags, my journal, ipod, water and a butterfinger...Seems I've developed a sweet tooth after turning 30. If that's all that comes with 30, I think I'm settling in pretty well. So far, the new decade is treating me great!"

Last week, Rimes made headlines just after her 30th birthday by checking herself into inpatient treatment to handle anxiety and stress.

Michael Clarke Duncan of ‘Green Mile’ fame dies at 54

By Meriah Doty | Movie Talk

(Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures/Everett Collection)
Michael Clarke Duncan -- best known for his Oscar-nominated role as a death row inmate who possessed magical healing powers in the 1999 film "The Green Mile" -- died on Monday at the age of 54, according to his fiancee Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth.

Duncan had been in a Los Angeles hospital since July 13 following a heart attack and died on Monday morning after close to two months of treatment.

At 6-feet, 5-inches tall and approximately 300 pounds, Duncan was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for his role as gentle giant prisoner John Coffey in "The Green Mile," also starring Tom Hanks. Duncan won the role, in part, due to a recommendation by Bruce Willis, who he worked with on 1998's "Armageddon." Duncan went on to appear with Willis in three more films -- "Breakfast of Champions," "The Whole Nine Yards" and "Sin City."

Before he broke into acting, Duncan worked as a bodyguard for stars including Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J, and The Notorious B.I.G. -- whose 1997 death prompted him to quit that line of work.

Duncan's career spanned three decades and included roles in other television and film titles including "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "Married with Children," "The Jamie Foxx Show," "Living Single," "Bulworth," "Arli$$," "A Night at the Roxbury," "Sister, Sister," "Planet of the Apes," "CSI: NY," "Talladega Nights," "Two and a Half Men," "Bones," and most recently "The Challenger," which is yet to be released.

Duncan was a prolific voice-over actor as well, lending his rumbling baritone to animated characters in "Kung Fu Panda," "King of the Hill," "Family Guy," "Green Lantern," and many others. The African American actor also played The Kingpin in 2003's "Daredevil," starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner -- a notable achievement seeing as the character in the original comics, on which the film is based, was always depicted as being white.

Nude photos of Prince Harry in Vegas cause royal hangover for Buckingham Palace

By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News | The Lookout

Nude photos of Prince Harry partying in a Las Vegas hotel room are causing another royal headache for the British monarchy.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Wednesday that the pictures of the 27-year-old naked prince playing pool in a hotel suite, posted by TMZ.com on Tuesday, are real.

According to TMZ, the pictures were taken Friday after Harry and his entourage went down to the hotel bar and invited the unidentified women back to his hotel suite and engaged in a game of "strip pool." In one of the images, Harry is seen standing and covering his genitals with his hand; in another, the prince is bear-hugging a naked woman.

Sources told ABC that Harry—who was heavily involved in London's Olympic hosting duties—"has been on holiday with friends, letting off steam before the next phase of his military duties." On Monday, Harry and U.S. gold medalist swimmer Ryan Lochte faced off in an impromptu "swim battle" at a pool party at Las Vegas' Wynn Hotel.

According to the BBC, the palace said it would be making no further comments about the nude images.

But the "Hangover"-like shots of Harry, third in line to the British throne, have nonetheless called into question the prince's royal judgment.

"Everybody knows better than to party naked in a room full of strangers without confiscating the cellphones," ABC News public relations consultant Howard Bragman said. "That's just Hollywood 101. There's always deniability, but once the photos are taken, you're caught."

"This is a mess—this was not the type of fun he was supposed to be having," a "source close to Harry"—apparently unfamiliar with Las Vegas' trademarked motto—told Us Weekly. "He's in trouble."

Harry's been in trouble before.

In 2005, the "playboy prince" apologized after a photograph taken at a costume party showed him wearing a Nazi uniform.

In 2002, Prince Charles sent Harry, then 17, to rehab after he admitted smoking marijuana and getting drunk in a pub near the royal family's country estate—which earned him the nickname "wild child."

In recent years, though, Harry has made an effort to shed his "wild" image, taking on more royal responsibility—including a solo tour of the Caribbean and Brazil in May.

"Prince Harry is not the first royal playboy and he certainly won't be the last," Daniella Gibb wrote on the Huffington Post U.K. blog. "Some of the most glorious royals in history were naughty. Comparisons have long been made between our Prince Harry and another handsome red-headed prince, Harry Tudor. He, too, as a second son was not expected to become King and therefore didn't have that burden or responsibility."

'Top Gun' director dies after jumping off bridge

By CHRISTOPHER WEBER | Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tony Scott, director of such Hollywood hits as "Top Gun," ''Days of Thunder" and "Beverly Hills Cop II," died Sunday after jumping from a Los Angeles County bridge, authorities said.

The 68-year-old Scott's death was being investigated as a suicide, Los Angeles County Coroner's Lt. Joe Bale said.

"I can confirm that Tony Scott has passed away. The family asks that their privacy is respected at this time," Scott's spokesman, Simon Halls, said in a statement.

Several people called 911 around 12:35 p.m. to report that someone had jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island in Los Angeles Harbor, according to Los Angeles police Lt. Tim Nordquist.

A dive team with Los Angeles Port Police pulled the body from the murky water several hours later, Nordquist said. Scott's body was taken to a dock in Wilmington and turned over to the county coroner's office.

One lane of the eastbound side of the bridge was closed to traffic during the investigation. Cargo vessels moved at reduced speeds through the east side of the port's main channel during the search, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Investigators found a note in Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on the bridge, according to the Los Angeles Times. That note listed contact information. A suicide note was later found at his office.

The British-born Scott, who lived in Beverly Hills, was producer and director Ridley Scott's younger brother. Distinct visual styles mark both siblings' films — Ridley Scott mastering the creation of entire worlds with such films as "Gladiator," ''Blade Runner," ''Alien" and this year's "Prometheus," Tony Scott known for hyper-kinetic action and editing on such films as his most recent, the runaway train thriller "Unstoppable," starring regular collaborator Denzel Washington.

Scott was a thrill-seeker himself in his personal life, an avid rock climber who also liked driving fast cars and motorcycles. Still, filmmaking was his real thrill.

"The biggest edge I live on is directing. That's the most scary, dangerous thing you can do in your life," Scott said in an interview for his 1995 naval adventure "Crimson Tide." ''The scariest thing in my life is the first morning of production on all my movies. It's the fear of failing, the loss of face and a sense of guilt that everybody puts their faith in you and not coming through."

Tony was the first of the Scott brothers to enjoy blockbuster success with "Top Gun," starring Tom Cruise, the top-grossing film of 1986 at $176 million. Scott teamed with Cruise again four years later on the hit "Days of Thunder." He also had a sequel to "Top Gun" in development.

But Ridley Scott later managed more and bigger hits than his brother and earned a level of critical respect never achieved by Tony Scott. "Gladiator" won the best-picture Academy Award for 2000 and earned Ridley Scott one of his three best-director nominations; Tony Scott never was in the running for an Oscar, and critics often slammed his movies for emphasizing style over substance.

Even Scott admitted that it was a challenge to infuse drama into some of his scenarios — for example, cars racing in circles in "Days of Thunder." In an interview for that 1990 summer hit, Scott was blunt about where some of the ideas came from.

"I went back and I stole from all race movies to date," Scott said. "I took the better elements, then tried to build on them. Really, the speed, the energy and the placement of the audience inside some of the cars came in the editing room. ...

"I'm always pushing for something new and fresh in the way things are shot, and the rest happens in the editing room. ... The real speed comes from the cutters and what they do with the celluloid."

While Ridley Scott had an auspicious start to his film career with 1977's acclaimed period drama "The Duellists" and 1979's "Alien," Tony Scott bombed with his debut, 1983's supernatural romance "The Hunger," with David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve.

He vaulted into Hollywood's top ranks the next time out, with "Top Gun," followed a year later by "Beverly Hills Cop II," both with producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

The two brothers ran Scott Free Productions and were working jointly on a film called "Killing Lincoln," based on the best seller by Bill O'Reilly. Along with countless commercials, their company produced the CBS dramas "NUMB3RS" and "The Good Wife" as well as a 2011 documentary about the Battle of Gettysburg for the History Channel.

Tony Scott said he gained perspective by mixing things up between film, TV and commercials.

"I like changing the pace of my life, changing my discipline. It gives me ideas for how to see the world differently," Scott said in a 2007 interview.

Besides "Unstoppable," Scott worked with Washington on four other movies: "Crimson Tide," ''Man on Fire," Deja Vu" and "The Taking of Pelham 123."

In a tweet Sunday, director Ron Howard said, "No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day."

Director Jon Favreau tweeted, "Such sad news about Tony Scott. Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends."

Other Scott films include "True Romance," written by Quentin Tarantino, "The Fan," with Robert De Niro, and "Enemy of the State," starring Will Smith.

Scott was married to actress Donna Scott, who appeared in several of her husband's films. They have twin sons.

Completed in 1963, the 6,060-foot Vincent Thomas Bridge links rises 185 feet at its highest point above the Los Angeles Harbor. Many have taken their lives by jumping from the span.

The bridge has been used in many Hollywood productions, among them "Charlie's Angels," ''Gone in 60 Seconds" and "The Fast and the Furious."

Katie Holmes Teaches Suri Cruise How to Ride a Bike

Us Weekly

Katie Holmes is guiding her little girl in more ways than one!

The Romantics actress, 33, taught her daughter, Suri Cruise, 6, how to ride a bicycle in New York City August 18. Wearing a V-neck white tee and blue jeans, Holmes kept a watchful eye over her child with ex-husband Tom Cruise, 50.

Suri, whose pink helmet matched her magenta bicycle, placed her favorite stuffed animal in a basket as Holmes steered the bike by taking hold of one of its handlebars. Though they've been spotted spending time at family-friendly venues like the Bronx Zoo and Chelsea Piers, an insider recently told Us Weekly that Holmes intends to give her daughter a more structured schedule.

"Suri's life is going to change," the insider said. "Katie wants to really become a parent and start teaching her strong discipline."

The mother-daughter duo recently returned to the Big Apple after a brief visit to Holmes' native Ohio. In the months following the actress' split with Tom, "she's been doing really great," another source recently told Us. "She's so strong. She's an independent girl with her own ideas."

Holmes and her daughter currently reside in a $12,500-a-month apartment in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. The actress will return to Broadway this fall in Theresa Rebeck's new play, Dead Accounts. The five-character comedy will be directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien.

Spice Girls reunite at Olympics closing ceremony

By Jessica Derschowitz
(CBS News) The Spice Girls reunited Sunday for a performance during the star-studded closing ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm and Melanie Brown - aka Posh Spice, Baby Spice, Ginger Spice, Sporty Spice and Scary Spice - sang their hits "Wannabe" and "Spice Up Your Life" while riding around the Olympic Stadium atop bedazzled taxi cabs.

It was the first time the British '90s group has performed together since their reunion tour more than four years ago. Earlier this year, the quintet came together to announce details of "Viva Forever," a musical based on their songs that is set to begin in London this fall.
Beckham was featured in the closing ceremony twice - during the Spice Girls performance, and earlier in the show, when one of her designs appeared in the portion of the evening celebrating British fashion.

Kim Kardashian’s swimsuit picture obsession

Kim Kardashian tweeted these photos on August 2 (Instagram)

By Suzy Byrne | A-Line: Celebrity Style

Another week, another two new bikini photos of Kim Kardashian! On Thursday, the reality TV star posted a pair of self-portraits to Twitter in which she was wearing a revealing brown string bikini with gold embellishments. She labeled the first photo "pool time." The second, tweeted soon after, was tagged, "#nofilter #nophotoshop."

Is it us or is the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star a bit obsessed with sharing her swimsuit photos with the world?

Skimming her Twitter feed over the last month, she's shared at least six bathing suit pics. Unlike the new ones — snapped in what appears to be a very fancy bathroom — the others were taken in more exotic locations. On July 15, Kanye West's lady love posted a va-va-voom shot of her sporting a one-piece with a plunging neckline and black-and-white stilettos. "Good morning Miami," she wrote alongside the shot, which was taken on a yacht. (Good thing it wasn't snapped on a beach — we don't think she'd get far in those heels!) A few days earlier, she tweeted a vintage photo from a 2009 calendar shoot that took place in Cabo San Lucas. In the pic, Kim strikes a sexy pose in which she's standing on a bed with her arms over her head while the sun comes up in the background. "Sunrise summertime shoot," she wrote, again noting that the image was not photoshopped.

Based on the frequency in which she shares these racy shots (and brags that they are not photoshopped), one would think Kim, 31, is completely at ease with her famously voluptuous body, but that doesn't seem to be the case. During an appearance on the U.K. web series "Lorraine" in June, she was asked if she was comfortable with her curves and had a hard time answering the question. "I think so, for sure," she said before changing her answer. "Well, no, I'm such a perfectionist. I don't think I'm ever really comfortable."

She also talked about how her thighs are her biggest insecurity, saying, "I still have some cellulite." She also noted that Spanx is "the greatest invention."

One would also assume that if she's endlessly posting photos of herself in various states of undress, she must be getting nothing but encouragement after she posts each picture, right? Not necessarily. On the more recent images, there are comments from Instagram users like capetownsista, who wrote, "Why do you feel the need to take pics of yourself and post it? So many of you out there as it is. I'm just saying." And marc20031987 commented, "Very nice but slightly attention seeking."

That's not to say that all the feedback is bad. amberfox07, who is on Team Kim, wrote, "It's pictures like this that reassure girls that being skin and bones is not always sexy! Props Kim!!!" And Mattybee23 was so inspired that he proposed: "MARRY ME."
